Bulbo
Leuci, 1957
With Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Bulbo pared the electric lamp down to its most fundamental element: the light bulb and, in turn, pared the bulb down to its essential being: a sphere that holds a filament. The Castiglionis removed the screw socket from a 1000 watt, nearly neckless bulb and suspended the sphere from a thin cable, allowing the electrical leads to trail off separately. Castiglioni said of Bulbo in 1985: "A misguided, irrational lamp, not meant to be mass-produced, designed for fun."
